Description

Mareena’s vision is Slovakia, which is a safe and dignified home for everyone, regardless of nationality, ethnicity and religion.
At Mareena, we believe that we all build a cohesive and accepting society together.

  • We provide opportunities for the active integration of foreigners into Slovak society.
  • We support the local community and foreigners in establishing relationships,
  • We raise public awareness of the topics of diversity, migration and integration.

We provided information and assistance to people from Ukraine who have decided to come to Slovakia directly at the border crossing in Vyšné Nemecké and we continue to do so in five other towns in Slovakia. We support the development of their skills, help them orientate themselves on the labour market and find employment.

We provide inclusive activities for children in the form of children’s clubs in the humanitarian centre in Gabčíkovo.

We carry out educational and community activities, we spread awareness about the topics of identity, diversity, inclusion and migration in several cities.

Education

We organize workshops and courses that help foreigners better orient themselves in a new environment, understand a new country and its inhabitants, develop their potential and find employment on the local labour market. Through foreign language courses, we also introduce different countries and their culture to local residents. You can take part in educational activities in Košice, Nitra and Bratislava.

Engagement

Volunteers help foreigners better integrate into society and manage new life situations associated with staying in a new country. They teach Slovak, assist children with school preparation and homework, help with social and cultural orientation in towns and organize community events in Mareena.

Our teams of volunteers from the Ukrainian community provide counselling and information on available services, they provide special assistance to their community in the form of integration assistance. They also assist with the preparation of community events.

Our volunteer teams operate in five Slovak locations and there is always an opportunity to join us and become our volunteer in spring and autumn.

Community

Community events and activities help us create a friendly environment for connecting local residents with people who have found their new home in Slovakia.
We provide space and support foreigners in creating engaged communities and making them visible in Slovak society.

We are happy to welcome you to various community events such as film screenings, creative workshops, community dinners, excursions, sports activities, summer camps for children or celebrations of holidays of different cultures and minorities. Every year in September, we prepare the multi-genre Mareena festival, which takes place in Bratislava. Mareena’s community activities are open to all.

You can attend our community events and activities in Nitra, Bratislava, and Košice.

Raising awareness

Schools, companies and general public are becoming an important part of debates about diversity, equality, but also hate speech. To help them navigate all available information and look at diversity and integration from different angles, we organize educational workshops and year-round campaigns that bring new perspectives, tools and innovative advocacy approaches.
